Stay Hydrate
October 2025
I’m a bit late this month, but here we are with muscadet you should know about, more events for your busy OND calendar, some highlights from recent NYC trips, and a sad but very important music installment..
Wine
Jean Baptiste Hardy is a large part of the renaissance happening in Muscadet. With many young wine makers returning home, taking over family vineyards, and returning to a more artisanal approach. In 2018, he took over around 4 hectares (about 10 acres) of vines planted in the ‘50s and ‘60s in the heart of Muscadet Sevre et Maine. This came after honing his craft and learning under Bodega Chacra in Patagonia and Domaine Roulot in Burgundy. His first vintage was 2020 with two single plot bottlings. He began taking over the rest of his family’s holdings in 2022, expanding roughly another 10 hectares (about 25 acres).
If you want to get nerdy..his soils are mostly made of gabbro, a volcanic rock, and topped with combinations of sand and clay. This lends to the texture and minerality that Hardy’s wines are becoming known for. Though he’s based in the heart of Muscadet, do not sleep on his Ponceau Rouge!
Local
These months are when the calendars start filling up real quick, and the end of the year speeds up on us. If you don’t already have enough going on..here are a couple more things to pencil in happening around here.
-Last week the Sowa Power Station hosted the Affordable Art Fair. You should definitely check this out next year (confirmed for October 2026!) Artists and galleries from around the world come to show artwork priced between $100-$10,000. An opportunity to support emerging artists or just look at some cool art if you’re not in the market!
-Art Show Sunday 11/2 at Grays Hall feat. @donnylikesskulls “places, plants & vessels”
-Weekly pop ups and holiday markets at Neighborhood Wines starting with a ceramic pop up feat. @hillaryhenrici on Sat. Nov 22nd. These will continue through the month of December with a big holiday market to cap it off!
-Small Business Saturday Market 11/29 at Neighborhood Wines featuring local artisans, Party Vintage Salon, wine tastings, and excellent holiday vibes.
-The infamous @ceresbakes aka Mackenzie Innis will be starting up a Sourdough Sunday series at the shop once or twice a month. Stay tuned!
Travel
I was in New York a couple times this month for wine tastings and fairs. So along with some delicious new wines to look forward to coming our way, here are some more spots in the City you should check out..
-St. Jardim: I’m doubling down on this place because I think it is a perfect spot. Any time of day, food, wine, coffee. 10/10
-Fedora: The team behind St. Jardim revamped the old Bar Fedora into a fine dining restaurant (but not the type of fine dining that makes you feel not fancy enough to be there). The food, the service, the wine, the space..a rare A score!
-Carnitas Ramirez: Tacos, tortas, gorditas from all parts of the pig! Lower East Side.
-Taqueria Ramirez: More tacos from the Ramirez team. Greenpoint.
-Horse with No Name: Wine bar, no internet presence. Good people, wine, and a private room with a cheap minimum!
-Rude Mouth: Williamsburg wine bar with the most beautiful back patio
-King: We had a very nice lunch on the patio. Very deep Burgundy list if you fancy that. Soho/West Village.
-&Son: Men’s clothing store. Great pieces..some pricey, some not so bad.
-Cove: new restaurant from the Gem team. Beautiful space, great wine, food is very tasty and cooked well..maybe needs some time to focus
Ok there’s lots more, but that’s good for now.
Music
We lost a very special contributor to the historical timeline of music this month. Many of us have Brown Sugar and Voodoo playing, but do not leave out Black Messiah by the genius that was D’Angelo.
